The Recruiting Process

Dos and Don’ts for Marketing Services at Parental Choice Informational Fairs

During the Parental Choice Informational Fairs, providers should adhere to the Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ Guidelines for Professional Conduct Ethics for SES Providers. In addition, the following guidelines describe the expectations from any of our SES employees

Dos

  • Keep in mind that tables are assigned to providers in a random basis.

  • Properly train staff members prior to the Fairs on ethical behavior and best practices for effective marketing.

  • Promote professional standards for staff attending Fairs, such as proper attire and communication skills.

  • Provide literature in multiple languages (English, Spanish and Haitian-Creole).

  • Engage bilingual staff to assist with parents’ language needs.

  • Proactively provide answers to common questions about your program, such as number of sessions, rate per session, subjects offered, tutor qualifications, locations of tutoring, etc.

  • Stay behind the assigned table at all times to avoid obstruction of the walking areas.

  • Keep in mind that only two chairs per table will be available for each provider.

  • Keep large displays and materials behind assigned tables.

  • Interact with schools, parents, and with other providers in a professional manner during the Fairs.

Don’ts

  • Offer a student or parent any form of incentive for signing-up a student.

  • Advertise or use as an incentive computers, phones, or other instructional equipment used by students while services are provided. The provider may inform parents that the student will have access to such instructional equipment, but the provider shall not promote it as an incentive or benefit of their service.

  • Distribute marketing materials outside of the designated area or at the entryway of the area established for the Fair.

  • Distribute enrollment forms at your table. District staff will facilitate SES enrollment during the Fair.

  • Use a district enrollment form that has the selected provider’s name pre-printed as part of the form.

  • Remove chairs or tent cards from assigned tables.

  • Use the fair venue to bring complaints to SES staff extraneous to the fair proceedings.
